Coming up on 48 hours now without phone/DSL service at home. That would be bad enough, of course, except three times now Verizon has cleared the trouble-ticket, meaning "It's fixed!" when it wasn't in fact fixed.

I feel your pain. They do suck mightily. Escaping them was one of the fringe benefits that I didn't anticipate when I moved away from NYC. In all the years I lived in NYC, I never had a single interaction with NY Tel/Nynex/Bell Atlantic/Verizon go off without a hitch. They even sent a collection agency after me when I had the nerve to refuse to pay for overseas phone calls made from a particular number months before they gave it to me.
